Written in 1928, "The History of the Mount Zion M. E. Church, South"
is a record of names and church society from 1851 to 1928.
Lucy Jane Williams, (1840-1934) was born in Chatham County North Carolina, a daughter of Albert Jean (Gean) and Cynthia Harmon. "My father haulded with his wagon and team the first sills and sleepers to start the foundation of this church... two miles southeast of Pittsboro..." she writes in 1928.
Interspersed in the long, dry lists of Sunday School records are interesting historical notes by the author.
The pages published here were transcribed in September 2006 by Mary Jane (Eich) Sparks, from 2nd or 3rd generation photocopies transmitted to me by Melinda Harman Mathis, the amiable hostess at Gean-ealogy.com, and the "Kousins" research site. Perhaps, with this publication, an original can be located, and the holder will have other valuable historical information to share. The pagination is identical to the original, but line space and typeface are not. The structure, spelling and grammar of the original has been retained. Mary Jane is not responsible for typos! We hope to footnote corrections for the obvious, as well as aid in consistent searching.
